Excavators are a standard piece of equipment for many work sites. While their full-size versions are a necessity for large-scale construction sites, their mini counter parts are excellent for home projects and smaller jobs. Mini excavators may come in models as light as one-tonne, however, they’re full of power. These machines are excellent for digging foundations and driveways, and are perfect for landscaping needs. While many instantly recognise excavators with their bucket attachment, not many know that you aren’t limited to this attachment. There are a range of other attachments available to be installed onto a mini excavator, making this machine incredibly multipurpose. To learn more about what you can do with a mini excavator, continue reading for a full guide on attachment options.
Bucket
The bucket is the standard attachment for an excavator, including mini models. However, did you know that buckets come in different size options? Further, some models come with a hydraulic tilt bucket, which is used to pick up, move around, and dump dirt and materials around work sites.
Posthole borers
These are often used for landscaping. Posthole borers easily and efficiently create holes in the ground. These are great for creating or repairing fences or for when you need to put in a new clothesline or post box.
Drill bits
These come in a range of sizes (from 150mm to 1000mm) and therefore can be used for a range of purposes. Much like the post hole borer, drill bits dig holes in the ground. These can also be used to install fences and landscaping designs.
Hydraulic rock breakers
These attachments are great for rocky earth. If you’ve got a foundation with large rocks that are too hard to remove, use a hydraulic rock breaker to blast the rock into smaller, more manageable pieces. Once the rock has been broken down, it can be excavated.
Hydraulic rock grabbers
A hydraulic rock grabber is a claw-like attachment that can pinch objects (rocks, concrete sleepers, and other bulky material) to transport them around a site. The claws are great for securing bulky objects, like rocks, making them good for shifting big material quickly.
Concrete sleeper grabber
While it's possible to grab concrete sleepers with a hydraulic rock grabber, it takes a lot more precision and patience. There’s also a greater risk of them falling out. That’s why many people opt for a concrete sleeper grabber for this specific purpose. This attachment has a more stable clamping function that really secures concrete sleepers (or similar objects).
