What To Do If You’ve Hurt Yourself during a DIY Project At Home

DIY projects are when we can show our ability at home. This is the time where we control everything happening around us till the project is complete. It is rather unfortunate that it is during this time that some people get hurt. You can get hurt during a DIY project, especially when trying to complete a risky undertaking for the first time. When you get hurt, your reaction determines how severe the injury can be. The following are things to do when you get injured.

Head injury

This is usually not a severe injury to worry much about. Still, when it occurs regularly, it can cause brain damage. If there is swelling on the head, you can simply apply an ice pack over the affected area. When this does not help, contact a medical professional for help.

Splinters

If the splinter is stuck outside the skin;

The first thing to do is to wash around the skin with soap and water.

They clean a pair of tweezers using a cotton swab disinfected with alcohol.

Pull the splinter out with the tweezers, at the same angle as the splinter went in.

Wash of skin with water and soap.

If the wound gets infected, contact a medical professional for assistance.

If the splinter is under the skin, you have to scrape away the skin above. It makes it easier for you when it is time for you to pull it out with the tweezers. Then follow the previous procedure above.

Bleeding

This injury can be misleading, especially when there is much blood involved because it might not be that severe. To treat bleeding,
Start by applying pressure to the affected area to stop the bleeding. Do this by using a material that can absorb the blood. Continue till the bleeding stops.

If there is a material in the wound, don’t pull it out directly.
