It’s been a lifelong dream of yours to create a beautiful garden or to create an excellent outdoor space for entertaining or relaxing, and you wonder, what do you do before you start?
Here are five things to consider before you start landscaping:
1. Analyse the work site
By work site, I mean the area that you are planning to design. Identify what can affect your landscaping plans or design. Start by analysing the size and the shape. There might be a tree you need to work around or a fence. Take notes of these features. Take note of the drainage patterns too.
2. Requirements
What do you need? What do you want? For instance, you want to dig a trench or something similar, you will need a small excavator, depending on the size. It would help if you had shovels and other equipment. What do you want to create? It can be a kid's playground, garden, patio or outdoor entertainment area. Depending on what you want to build, write a list of the materials required.
3. Environment
Your environment will dictate what kind of plants you will require. For instance, if you plant trees in front of your windows, you will block all the light, but you will block excessive light if you plant them at a safe distance. When grown correctly, plants will block excessive noise, provide shade and give your property ambient temperature.
4. Users of the site
You might want to plant a vegetable garden, but your backyard is your kids' playground. There is a high possibility that your children might step into your garden when playing. Hence before you start landscaping, consider all the users of your targeted work site. Ensure your design or what you decide upon fits all the users.
5. Overall theme
Think about the overall theme. You want to create a design that flows effortlessly from your house to the backyard to that fantastic garden. Consider working with the already existing house themes, the lines and the angles. Consider the colour theme, whether you want a traditional theme or design, etc.
